Why is Love Never Enough?

You know who you are,
you've all left your scar,
but I can't and won't
go on believing
you're the only kind that there are.

I've watched pure beauty, pure love
be pushed aside by another
the words of your heart
silenced
by the opinions of your mother.

By the pressure of your peers,
oh how tempting they can be,
why spend the night with "the one"
when you can have more fun
with a 40.

When the looks from others matter more
than the looks shared between two lovers,
when the only time you'll speak her name
is safe,
unheard,
under the covers.

Pride will come, butterfly,
from the one worthy of your magic,
he'll shine your love like a beacon,
to hide it would be tragic

wreak havoc
on his heart
which will know
that together is the best way to grow.
